October Germ Blog

Happy October!

Do you ever have one of those years where school starts and then you blink and it’s October? That’s been my year! I’m so sorry for abandoning you in September and I hope you’ve had a great germ-free start of the school year. Now is a great time to purchase your Glo Germ kids for the school year! Flu season is just around the corner and it’s a great time to talk to your students about proper hand washing to get rid of all those yucky winter germs that are coming!

Increase Garbage Can Count to Avoid Germs

I was observing another teacher at a different school, and she had something in her classroom that was so brilliant I almost cried. I don’t know why this is something I’ve never thought of, but by way of germ-free classrooms, it was amazing. Picture the end of your day when your students are cleaning up the floor… touching the garbage that someone else threw down and 4 people have stepped on and someone else picked it up and it still hasn’t made it to the garbage. Gross. Well, this genius teacher solved that problem. Garbage cans. Tiny garbage cans at every cluster of desks. She made it a big deal to have every student throw away their own garbage so there’s no germ sharing. Smart, right? I was blown away by this simple idea that could solve so many germy problems. So I found these at my friendly neighborhood Target. I think they were $2. For my 5 tables it was a $10 solution that has saved me from being grossed out as my students pick up the floor. Great solution. What other classroom solutions do you have for staying clean?

Flu Shot Recommendation

As I mentioned before (but none of us are ready to think about just yet), cold and flu season is coming up. I’ve already scheduled my flu shot through our school clinic. Don’t forget to get yours! We can’t force our students to get them, but we can nicely remind our parents that they are really important. Luckily, I’ve got a freebie for you! Notes for you to send home with your parents just reminding them that you want your class to stay healthy and happy this season.  See the notes home to parents attached to this page below!  Enjoy the BOO Notes and lets fight infection!

Good luck, teachers! Stay healthy!

Goodbye Germs,

Mrs. T
