The following is Part 3 of a germ guessing game. Check out the blog home page to access the previous sections of infection control activity. There will 8 total parts of this activity.
Make sure to follow up this activity with a Glo Germ lesson that highlights how germs spread and how to get rid of the bad germs (20 second hand washing in warm water and soap, cleaning desks and supplies, hand sanitizer when hand washing is not possible, keeping hands away from the face and more!).
Having the Glo Germ Kit activity will "show" students germs (with the fluorescent simulation germs) under the UV black light. The activity is simple and very engaging for students!
Who Am I? Germ guessing game Part #3 About Me: I am a multi-strain virus. I frequently leave scientists on their toes trying to come up with my latest strain because I change so often. I usually show up in the winter months and usually pose a high risk to younger and older people. What I do: I cause high fevers, chills, congestion, coughing and muscle aches in my victims. I am the most active (7 days before symptoms) even before you realize that I am inside of you. Meaning, I keep spreading quickly because those that I have infected will not know for days that I am in them.
How to Stop Me: The best way to avoid me is to practice good hygiene in all that you do. Wash your hands often, use hand sanitizer gel when possible, cover your mouth, avoid large gatherings, do not share utensils, etc. If you feel sick, stay home until you feel better to not spread me further. Choose the virus, illness, or bug from the list that best fits the description below.- -Meningitis
- -Tuberculosis
- -Head Lice
- -Hepatitis A
- -Impetigo
- -Varicella (Chicken Pox)
- -Influenza
- -Tinea Capitis (Ringworm of the Scalp)
