Hello, Teachers! What a great month! Fun things to teach, excited kids, and a nice long break soon! You deserve it! While there are a lot of extra things to do this month, keep in mind the importance of hygiene in your classroom. If you haven’t had students come down with the winter sick bugs, you probably will soon! Cold and flu season are getting under way and there is no better place to spread germs than in a classroom. Take a few extra minutes at the end of your day to really disinfect those high-traffic areas. Don’t forget doorknobs, workshop or center parts, pencil sharpeners, computers and drinking fountains. Take note of the things in your classroom that your students touch often! Don’t forget your things! Your mouse, phone and keyboard can be covered with germs. Make sure you’re protected too!
This is also a great time to re-teach the importance of hand washing. Your students are headed home for a few weeks and may not keep the habit of hand washing they’ve established in your classroom. Pull out your Glo Germ kit and show them the germs on their hands again! Make sure that (disgusting!) visual is in their minds as they go home for the Holidays. With any luck, they will share some of that knowledge with their families as well! Need an idea for presents for your students? Boxes of tissues, soap and hand sanitizer are a great gift to send home! Parents will appreciate your efforts in teaching good hygiene habits to their students. Happy Holidays! Goodbye, germs!
