Hello, Teachers! Happy Valentine’s Day! Time to get out the sweets and treats and take an entire day to celebrate those we love. While we are sharing treats and Valentines in our classrooms, be careful we’re not also sharing those winter cold and flu germs. Make sure to sanitize or wash hands before and after you hand out Valentines, and definitely wash before you eat treats! Make washing before eating a part of your classroom routine! Hopefully your students will understand the importance, and carry these important habits home with them. Valentine’s Day is a great time to do some crafts to remind students and families about the importance of good hygiene habits in the home. Make parents a Valentine’s present they’ll never forget! Find some inexpensive picture frames (or just cut a frame out of cardstock or heavy paper!) and have the student draw or bring a picture of their families to put in the frame along with the phrase “I Love You Too Much To Get Sick.” Have some art supplies, as well as some tissues and band-aids available.
Explain to students that we want to protect the ones we love! Ask them how they feel when someone in their family is sick or hurt. Remind them of good habits they can have at home to avoid these!
Decorate the frames with art supplies (they can even make some germs using pom poms or pipe cleaners!) and add in a few tissues or band-aids to remind families of the important things they can do to stay healthy. Parents will love the family picture and the hygiene reminder! Goodbye Germs! Mrs. T |
