Happy November, Teachers! I hope you all survived Halloween and were able to keep the scary germs at a minimum! Now it’s time to shift our focus to things we’re thankful for. As teachers, we can be very thankful for our jobs. Educating children can be one of the most frustrating, yet most rewarding jobs out there. So take a second on a frustrating day to think of a few things or kids in your class you are thankful for! I’m also thankful for all of the things in life that make it easier to be germ-free. Hand sanitizer, tissues, soap and cleaning wipes top my list of thanks! This month, talk to your kids about the cold season. Emphasize the use of tissues, especially in the younger grades. Express how thankful you are when everyone is at school and how we should all be very thankful for good health.
Explain that tissues can be great germ catchers when you cough or sneeze or have a runny nose. If students can use tissues properly, the germs won’t be lurking around your classroom quite as much during this cold and flu season. Remind them of the Glo-Germ lesson and the germs on their hands, or just do it again!
*Bulletin Board: make a turkey using (clean!) tissues to show that your class is thankful to be germ free!
A special note to 6th grade teachers: Just like germs, that mandatory Microbe lesson seems to be lurking in the back of our minds! Make sure your students get the most out of your teaching by using the OUTFOX system of lessons. The Glo-Germ activity will really solidify the concept of germs and microbes for your students. Goodbye, germs!
